Few people come to Scotland for the weather. Scots joke that sometimes we can have all four seasons in a day.
Scottish winters are cold and often wet and snow is not uncommon. There are four ski areas in the Scottish mountains.
Springtime in Scotland is a time of regeneration with lambs in the fields and daffodils at the roadsides but it can still be cold and unforgiving.
Summers can include very hot days up to 30 degrees centigrade but these are rare and we Scots are just pathetically grateful if it is dry overhead and not too cold.
Autumn can include warm days and is very beautiful. Perthshire especially is known as ‘big tree country’ and a blaze of autumn colours from reds, oranges, golds, greens and yellows make it a particularly striking
In general work on the assumption that it will be colder than you expect and that if you don’t see rain, you will have been very lucky.
On the plus side, when there isn’t fog or rain, the light in Scotland can be truly magical.
